The Open Door team is dedicated to helping returned missionaries in communities who need the most help. We are a group of returned missionaries ourselves, and have a great love for those who sacrifice to serve. We work to ensure that returned missionaries can receive the assistance they need to succeed after they return home!
William Tracy Watson Ph.D.
President
Tracy worked for 35 years in the Missionary Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Director of Curriculum Development and Director of Proselyting. In his role as Director of Proselyting, he trained newly called mission leaders in their responsibilities. He also worked for five years in the Priesthood and Family Department where two of his responsibilities included helping returned missionaries and young single adults. He earned his Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology and Technology from Brigham Young University—Provo. He served as a missionary in the Florida Tampa Mission from 1978 to 1980. He and his wife Gayelynn, served as mission leaders in the Arizona Mesa Mission from 2004 to 2007. He is currently retired from Church employment, working on a few business ventures and spending time with his 25 grandchildren.
Trevor Watson
Vice President of Operations
Trevor is an eclectic acquirer of technical skills whose career has spanned music, technical consulting, and software engineering. Currently Trevor works as a freelance bassist and military musician for the 23rd Army Band, music producer, and entrepreneur. Trevor holds a bachelor's degree in Music from Brigham Young University and is working toward a Master's in Music Technology from Southern Utah University. When not working on music or business ventures, Trevor enjoys photography, videography, writing and spending time with his wife and 4 children.
Sam Sponseller
Treasurer
Sam is a corporate finance professional with experience across multiple industries. His career has focused on providing advanced financial analysis, dashboards, and presentations to executive management. Sam holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University – Idaho and an MBA from Idaho State University. In his free time, Sam enjoys outdoor running and exercise.
Daniel Ashworth

Danny Ashworth and his wife Denise have 5 sons and 3 lovely daughter in laws with a 4th being added this spring and two wonderful grandsons. Danny enjoys spending time with his family on the lake, in the mountains, on the golf course or in Gunlock Utah. Danny graduated from BYU with a Computer Science Degree and he has been part of several businesses surrounded by great teams such as Bluehost, Computer Warehouse and a handful of digital marketing companies. Danny coaches basketball at Lone Peak High School and enjoys spending time doing Family History Work. Relationships with Heavenly Father and his family and friends are of greatest importance to him.
Jordan Nelson

Jordan Nelson is the Vice President of M&A Advisory Services at VMG Health, the leading consultancy dedicated to improving healthcare business performance. Jordan began his career with Credit Suisse’s investment banking division where he worked in mergers & acquisitions and leveraged finance. He later went on to work 6 years at Columbia West Capital, a boutique investment bank in Scottsdale, AZ. Jordan has served in several corporate development roles with health care companies, including The Core Institute, Surgical Care affiliates and Imagen Dental Partners. Jordan joined BSM Consulting in 2021 to lead the M&A advisory service line. In 2023 BSM was acquired by VMG Health where Jordan continues to lead the M&A advisory service line. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Management from Brigham Young University. He served a full-time LDS Mission in the Russia, Novosibirsk mission from 2001-2003. Jordan and His wife Natalie Live in Peoria Arizona with their eight children.
Mark Dixon

Mark Dixon has worked as a dental laboratory technician and owned and operated his own orthodontics lab since 1976. Mark’s business has serviced many dentists in the Las Vagas area during these years. Mark is a native of the Las Vegas area where he met and married his wife, Robin. Mark and Robin have six children and 22 grandchildren, whom they love spending time with. Mark served a full-time mission in the Idaho Pocatello mission and was one of the first of four missionaries to be assigned in Utah. Mark attended Brigham Young University Provo and UNLV. Mark enjoys spending his spare time watching his grandchildren participate in sports and other events.
Patrick Cannon

Patrick Cannon has been actively involved in charitable work for over 15 years, with a deep commitment to improving lives through face-to-face support. His experiences visiting countries around the world have shown him firsthand how even modest resources can create life-changing opportunities. As a general board member, Patrick brings a passion for helping returning missionaries find stable housing—believing that removing financial stress allows individuals to focus on building their future with purpose and direction.
Daniel Ware

Daniel Ware is a Program Manager in Salt Lake City, Utah, with 28 years of experience supporting missionaries and initiatives that help individuals transition to new opportunities. Daniel holds an MBA and a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from Brigham Young University. He served as a missionary in the Alaska Anchorage Mission from 1990 to 1992, taught missionaries at the Missionary Training Center (MTC), and worked in the Missionary Department, contributing to the development and support of missionary programs. His international travel has helped him see new opportunities to better support returned missionaries as they pursue education, employment, and independence. Daniel is passionate about fostering personal and spiritual growth for returned missionaries. His work aligns with Open Door International’s mission to provide safe housing and resources for those seeking greater opportunities. As a board member, Daniel is committed to helping Open Door expand its reach in Cambodia and beyond, ensuring every candidate receives the support needed to thrive.
